About the Designer:
Poul Cadovius (1911-2011) trained as a saddle maker and upholsterer before turning to furniture design. His drive and passion helped create change, uniting form and function in eternal harmony.
During the 1970s, he was the biggest furniture manufacturer in Denmark, with branches in 7 countries, exports to 40 markets, hundreds of patents for his own inventions, and a boat-building company.
He belonged to the same generation as many other famous Danish designers, including Arne Jacobsen, Piet Hein, Ole Wanscher, Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl, and Børge Mogensen, among others. All important contributors to the now classic furniture fashion called Danish Modern.
That was the thinking behind Poul Cadovius’s unique, visionary, and award-winning Abstracta System, which was launched back in 1962. The Abstracta System is in for functional, stylish design. Over the years, the Abstracta System has won countless design awards both in Denmark and abroad. It has also featured in the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) since 1967.
